Kickin’ off Spring Brandin’ 2016

Everyone is up!  Sausage, bacon and fried eggs are cooked. Hats and spurs are on.  If you have not heard the clanking of boots and spurs on a tile floor, well let’s just say, you can’t sleep through it. 😉 Horses are saddled.  It’s brandin’ day. 🙂

As my 2 favorite guys pull out of the driveway, I stretch my hand out toward the window and pray.

Lord, watch over the cowboys today.  Bless their day!

Early morning work days do not always go this smoothly but today was smooth sailing.  I am learning that the more prepared I am, the easier things go because aside from my husband, the rest of us don’t operate at 100% until after time spent with Jesus, coffee, chocolate milk and breakfast.  I stay behind with our fiery five year old who is not quite ready for a full day on the ranch. But her daddy doesn’t leave her out. Her grandma horse (as she calls her) is saddled and we will join them mid morning.  It is a sweet time between her and I, as we drink coffee and chocolate milk wrapped in a soft blanket on the couch.  What will I do when I don’t have a little one to stay behind with? I might have to do cowgirl work.  Mothering comes more natural to me but hey, God can work miracles. 🙂

The babies and the mommas are bellowing.  You could not ask for better weather.  The crew is working hard. Each doing their vital part.  The little girls play and ride horses. The little boys gave every shot with a few snacks and games of tag in between bunches.   These are the reasons why we enjoy this time of year on the ranch.

“Commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will be established.”
‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭16:3‬ ‭ESV‬‬

And that’s a wrap for today! Spring Brandin’ 2016 has kicked off. Now, I wonder if the boss man will buy us a late lunch? 😉

Thank you Lord for a safe, fun,  productive day.

The Good Nudge

Her eyes open to everything new.  She is wobbly and unsure.  Her mother helps her up with a tender nudge of her nose as if saying, get up my little one and stand.  Then the wet, wobbly baby calf goes to nurse from her mother.

Sometimes when my eyes are open and I am not focused on the next task of laundry, paint colors, the paper I forgot to sign,  what’s for dinner, well you get the point…  I slow down and observe these miraculous works of the Lord.  In the morning sun as I was leaving the new house, I stopped in the road and watched this new momma and new baby.  A baby calf being able to stand soon after it is born and a newborn baby nursing after birth will always amaze me.  This can only be the beautiful work of God!  The heavens are yours, and the earth is yours; everything in the world is yours-you created it all.  Psalm 89:11

I too feel my Heavenly Father nudging me saying, “Get up little one and stand.” Just like this new momma will do all she can to help her baby thrive. The Lord will equip us to thrive. Thrive means to flourish.  Through the love of His Son, Jesus, God has saved us from our yucky sinful self and given us the precious gift of the Holy Spirit to keep our feet walking in His ways. He has written down His love story and instructons for us in the Bible.  He lifts our fragile faces and says, I know this is new but I am with you. Open my Word and I will help you flourish.

When we seek the Lord first,

He will help us lay down our addictions.

He will give us the courage to go to church and not care what the person behind us thinks.

He will help us read and understand His Word.

Forgive, and love those that are sometimes hard to love.

Write and speak with confidence.  He is speaking to my heart about this right now as I study how He used reluctant Moses.  God says to Moses in Exodus 4:11-12, “Who makes mouths?” the Lord asked him.  “Who makes people so they can speak or not speak, hear or not hear, see or not see?  Is it not I, the Lord?  Now go, and do as I have told you.  I will help you speak well, and I will tell you what to say.”  Oh, don’t you just love the Word of God! 🙂

He will restore the joy of our salvation so that we can live a joyful life!

All these are things I have seen Him accomplish in my own life.

Other things could be added to this list a well.

But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.  Matthew 6:33

Let’s really take ahold of these truths and Get Up and Stand!  What is the Lord nudging you to do today?

The Big Hairy Test

This week I have been given the opportunity to be a test monitor.  You all know what “test” I am talking about.  I won’t get into all my feelings about “the test” because they are just my opinion and you know the saying about opinions.  Opinions are like ______, everybody’s got one. 😉

As I watched these kiddos read and bubble, read and bubble, read and bubble, trying to get the right answer, I know this feeling.  I know the feeling of trying my hardest to get everything right.

You see I am going through this weird faze of bouncing from exploding with excitement about sharing Jesus to shaking in my boots with fear.  I think the fear comes from, well as most of you know, I have not been to seminary or had any formal bible training.  I would maybe some day like to but the Lord has not given me a “yes” about that yet.  I quite frankly never feel like I know enough.  I am not smart enough.  My insecurities hold me captive in so many ways.   But here is some good news if you are like me in this area, I have not found anywhere in the bible where it says I have to be Mrs. Smartypants to share Jesus. 🙂

For a year now, I have been looking to Heaven shouting, “I want to get this right!”

As I sit in this small school room watching these precious souls trying to get it right, I hear this truth bubbling in my heart.

I got it right for you dear one, abide in Me.”

But the anointing that you received from him abides in you, and you have no need that anyone should teach you.  But as his anointing teaches you about everything, and is true, and is no lie-just as it has taught you, abide in him.  1 John 2:27

And these are the very words of Jesus, “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”  John 8:31-32 ESV

Abide means to remain, to continue, to stay, to dwell.

As we seek to serve God, Jesus’ perfect truth frees us to be all that God meant us to be. (from my application notes in my study bible)  I am not always going to write, say or do the exact right thing because I am just a sinner saved by grace clinging to Jesus through this life.  But, when I abide in Him, He not me will do great wonders.  This is great news to my scardey cat heart today!   Friends, if we remain and dwell in Jesus, He gets it right for us!

Lord, I lift up all the kiddos testing this week and their teachers.  I pray that we all remember if we abide in You, You get it right for us.  Help us remain in your Word, cry out to you in prayer, and share Your love with others.

A Tidbit of Truth from American Idol ;)

“Life doesn’t begin until you start living outside of your comfort zone.” -Jennifer Lopez

When someone talks about life beginning, my ears perk up.  She was talking to a singer being pushed to hit a high note on American Idol.

Is there truth to this statement? I tend to like my comfort zone.

No , I am not a singer. Although I love singing praises to the Lord. Bless my family’s ears and the precious souls that sit in front of me at church. 😉

Being obedient to the Lord is sometimes out of my comfort zone. I say sometimes because not murdering and not misusing the Lord’s name, these two commandments are easy for me. Exodus 20:1-17  But when the Lord instructs me to love Him with all of my heart, soul and mind & love my neighbor as myself.  Matthew 22:37-40  Well, let’s just say these two commandments can move me out of my comfort zone.
But when I walk in obedience, I am blessed to experience the works of the Lord. I begin to see things differently. I am changed for good.

Maybe there is some truth to Ms. Lopez’s statement…

When I am obedient to be quick to pray, my eyes and my heart turn toward the One who has the whole world in His hands.

When I am obedient in reading His Word, I gain true knowledge & understanding that can come from no other place.

When I am obedient to love others, my heart is changed for good.

When I fellowship with other believers (which can still give me butterflies), I grow spiritually and I am encouraged. Thank you Jesus for the sweet brothers and sisters in Christ you have placed in my path.

These things are not always comfortable but I am learning that when I am walking in obedience it is always good.  His ways are good!

So as I reflect on this writing and this quote.   A wise women reminded me, life begins when we find Jesus.  The adventure of walking with Him takes us out of our comfort zone and into a place of dependence on Him.

Father God, please help us be obedient even if it is out of our comfort zone. Help us to fully trust that your ways are always good.

“Joyful are those who obey his laws and search for him with all their hearts.”
‭‭Psalms‬ ‭119:2‬ ‭NLT‬‬
